More time -  26 June 09

Apparently clients and customers have more time on their hands, due to the recession.  If yours have, why not  ask for a session to build your understanding of their business?  Use the time to find out more about them, brainstorm ideas, sketch out plans and genuinely add value.  You'll certainly rise in their estimation, build their loyalty and who knows - business opportunities may spring from it for both of you.

Always opt to have your name in the url of your LinkedIn page – it helps search engines and people find you.

Don't forget the power of social networks to position your expertise.  Used strategically, the likes of LinkedIn and Twitter can give you a valuable 'touch point' with your fan base.  Remember though that these are just another communications tool in your reputation-building kitbag.  Keep your message consistent across all of them so as not to confuse or weaken your position. More

If you have contacts who refer business to you, keep them up to date on how things are progressing with that particular client or project.  Reassure them that their recommendation is in good hands.  Remember, their reputation (as well as your own) could be at risk here.

If you get asked to write an article/comment or give a presentation, always check how much content is required.  Check out word counts or timings and keep to them.  Your message then won't be weakened by being edited or cut short. Also, the people who've given you this opportunity are then more likely to pass more your way in the future. More
