Now's the time to grab your magnifying glass and do a little detective work.  What value are you really bringing to your customers or clients?  Are there any gaps that a competitor could exploit?  Look closely at what your customers want and fine-tune your products and services to deliver.

Which sectors do well in a downturn?  Which industries remain buoyant when others struggle?  Balance your target sectors.  Pick a sector for good times and one for bad. Build your reputation and specialist knowledge in each.
